Labor of Love

Our Electric Karma team has had the fortune of going all over the country to coordinate gorgeous Indian weddings; on labour day weekend alone, we managed beautiful services in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Louisville. Over the past 30 years of professional wedding planning experience, we have come to realize that holiday weekends are perhaps the most important weekends of the year. Especially when it comes to Indian weddings (which we all know last days), couples can easily have a guest list of 500 to 1,000 people flying in from all over the world. Weekends such as labor day thus make it far easier for couples to coordinate their wedding ceremonies with the schedules of their loved ones.

For many Indian families in America, the holiday season is considered to be the winter months- September to December… aka…  wedding season! In India, astrologers and priests from time immemorial found that auspicious wedding dates were set to be in the winter months (or in American terms, the “end of the year”). Due to this precedent, the winter months are today known as Indian Wedding Season wherever South Asians may reside in the world. In present-day India, where Westernization has a great impact, the climate likely had a lot to do with Indian wedding season. Guests would much rather hold festivities in the cooler, winter months of the year, which can partly explain why these dates became “auspicious” in the historical record.

In America, many of our weddings actually happen year-round, but we absolutely manage a larger influx of weddings in the holiday season – especially because we coordinate with clients and vendors who travel to and from India. For the Electric Karma team Labour day can be just as busy as Thanksgiving.  This past holiday provided our team with the unbelievable opportunity to travel to and absorb subcultures all over the country. See below for some of the stunning photographs from our recent weddings on Labour Day weekend!

Real Wedding: Nisha and Mehtab

Nisha and Mehtab’s three-day wedding took place in Los Angeles, basking in the presence of 350 of their closest friends and family. The events kicked off with a traditional Punjabi sangeet at Royal Vista Country Club in Walnut, CA. Striking colors of royal blue and lime green, paper lanterns, and soft drapery paired with submerged green baby orchids made up the décor and centerpieces of the venue. Suffice to say, they added a gorgeous contrast to the already stunning site. Hinal’s Beauty Studio was on-scene to provide beautiful mehndi services to the guests.

The wedding ceremony took place at Diamond Bar Center  with a traditional Sikh ceremony. Irises Designs created an amazing nature inspired Mandap with hydrangeas, amaranthus, and curly willow intertwining around the top and pillars of the structure. Moss and bird cages littered the runner for the bride to walk down. Tiscasreno’s provided catering, setting up a delectable display of breakfast item that was set up for the baraat upon arrival, as well as a mouthwatering Italian lunch at the end of the ceremony.

The following day, the beaming couple and their families celebrated with a breathtaking Hollywood-style reception at Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles.  AOO Events decorated the reception with extraordinary art deco statues and centerpieces made up of calla lilies, hydrangeas, and feathers. An amazing backdrop was also created to highlight an all-white cake from Cakes by Rumy. Family and friends celebrated the night with appetizing catering by Tandoor Cuisine of India. DJ Amit and his team at 3D Sounds kept the guests dancing with their magical tone-setting music.  We would like to also say thank you to Greycard Photography for the phenomenal photographs!

Real Wedding: Nisha & Chintan

Meet Nisha and Chintan: an adorable couple who were married in Westlake, Ohio, on a day filled with love, joy, and romance. With help from the breathtakingly beautiful décor by Party Décor, the couple celebrated with events like a Garba, a heartfelt and ancient dance ceremony originating in Gujarat, followed by an incredible reception. Forest Woods provided a beautiful floral backdrop for the wedding, carefully decorated to accent the venue on this special day. Guests feasted on sumptuous food catered first by Banana Leaf during the wedding and reception, and later by Safron Patch, which provided delicious food for the guest’s stunning Garba event.

During the wedding, guests gathered for a profoundly heartwarming ceremony as the couple exchanged vows in front of their family and friends. Nisha and Chintan celebrated their way into marital bliss as their close relatives and long-lasting friends joined them for the evening reception. Empire Entertainment’s constant flow of music and lighting created an enticing environment to all present. Photography by Banga and videography by Candy Apple assisted in commemorating the memories of this auspicious occasion.

SHAADI|REGAL PRESENTATION

Shaadi-regal-presentation

Shaadi-regal-presentation1

With the bride being from Costa Rica, we had a fabulous opportunity to bring some South American flavor to an otherwise traditional Indian wedding. While the couple married first in Costa Rica, their stateside wedding was a chance to introduce her family to Hindu customs—with a twist, of course. We began with the sangeet, where the delicious food was presented at canopied stations spaced around the room. Carts bearing favors for the guests were scattered throughout, which made taking a circuit to mingle feel a little like a treasure hunt. The mandap for the ceremony was crisp, modern, and adorned with flickering candles, a reflection of the bride’s fashionable style. It was the couple’s greatest wish that there be an elephant at their ceremony, but since the wedding took place during a 99-plus-degree Houston summer we devised the next best thing. Guests paraded around with colorful stuffed elephants mounted on sticks for the indoor baraat, which in the end wasn’t such a compromise considering outside it was Houston in July.
